Fifa 12 Demo Stutter/Lag Fix

FIFA 12 Demo was released this week, I was much excited to see what it’s gonna look like, It is pretty cool with the new defending system, ‘career mode’ looks impressing as well, lots of things are changed, but one thing EA was consistent with, that was lagging and stutter issue, almost similar to FIFA 11.

First of all I tried setting rendering and MSAA option to lowest from fifaconfig.exe, it did help but stuttering and bit of lag was still very much effective in the game, so I tried same settings with RadeonPro (tool which helped ATI users to fix FIFA 11 stuttering issue) but problem was still there but only slightly effective, game was in somewhat playable condition at this time.

After a bit of digging, I remembered a solution which was recommended last year by Ian Jarvis, adding ‘SCREEN_SLEEP=16’ in rna.ini file, that + setting MSAA and Rendering option to lowest did the job for me… game runs super smooth, but obviously rending is set to low, so quality won’t be that great. But I do hope EA fixes the lag and stutter issue in final release.

Here is the rna.ini file, download and paste it in your ‘game’ folder. Screenshot below.

It works for me(ati 5470), not too sure if it will work with nvidia cards, also you can try setting rendering quality to medium or high, might not sutter for other cards? issue could be coz’ of processor speed or gpu? let me know how you go with it, cheers…..

Yo alienH. So how does the final version of FIFA 12 work for you? Great thing that they included the ATI stabilizer, makes the game much smoother for me. However this time radeon pro is not working, although i discovered theres another program for that. Didnt try it so far tho. I had to set msaa and anti alising to minimal settings but now the game is silky smooth at least and also without any programs. But just in case : . Step 5 should be the one that includes a link for the software. Cheers.

no lag or stutter for me, although i had to set msaa and rendering has to be set on low, which really doesn’t bother me, very impressed with the new game and all the new ‘awesome’ features included this year…. so i guess there will no post from my side to fix the lag this year, :p – from what i have heard some nvidia and ati users are still experiencing lag…, it may just take few tweaks to fix it, or perhaps EA will release a patch, played all night 2 nights in row, lol…. cheers man….

Yea likewise, the game looks pretty good on low details for some reason, so no real need to have it all on high, thats why i didnt try the program. The game itself when played without the lag we had before is just awesome in every way, a joy to play… When it came out i actually played a whole career season within two days, with only like 7 games simulated, all 6 minute matches:D Best football ever (so far) 4 sure.

Why didn’t fifa include a very low graphics option like FIFA 11?

Yo! Not sure if I did this right… There was no rna.ini in the game folder. So I just copied one of the upper configuration files, deleted its content, and wrote in “SCREEN_SLEEP=16” without those apostrophes and saved it with the name rna.ini. Correct? I think it has done some work, although a bit lag still apears for me seems like those mega lags that sometimes stopped the game for seconds are gone, still I`m not sure If I done it correctly. Have I?

i think you did the same thing but long way, basically there is no rna.ini file in the folder, so first you download the rna.ini file from the link above, then copy and paste that file in the game folder, i already have included SCREEN_SLEEP=16 in the file so there is no need to edit it, set msaa and rendering to lowest in fifaconfig.exe and try… if you already have done that, try it with the radeon pro settings of fifa 11, but change AA to 8x in radeon pro, instead of 2x your specs are high enough. should be fine, there are 3-4 fixes for demo at the moment they all depend from PC to PC, let me know how you go… cheers….!!

Took me quite some time, but finally got it to work in a very playable way. Got to use radeon pro, and also had to download a file called “tweaker v2 final” that had a performance optimizer – two other *.ini files that helped and also more things for rna.ini. Although the game takes a longer time to load, and you dont see the menu where you pick the gamepad and favourite team options for some reason.. The game itself looks just perfect now, maybe it dosnt run as smooth as PES 12 demo but its working pretty fine now, no stuttering. Gotta say, this years FIFA is a lot better then any other football that ever was on PC, if they optimize the final game more so there wont be problems like this, it will have to be the definite choice even for die-hard PES fans this year. Thx for the help.

cheers man, glad you figured it out…. btw, there will be line ‘SKIP_BOOTFLOW=1’ in .ini file, which skips the controller selection screen when you start game, if you remove that line you will get those options back….

I discovered another thing that helps alot. Maybe somebody mentioned that here before as well. When you run the game and then press ctrl alt del for the task manager, you can set the highest priority possible for fifa.exe which should be “realtime”. For me that made the ultimate difference now I play with totally smooth gameplay.

          • AlienH September 22, 2011 at 8:36 PM #

instead of doing that every time, in radeon pro, in tweaks tab, check ‘high process priority’. think i already did include this in previous post… :p

          • Nutshell September 22, 2011 at 11:30 PM #

No, I know that, but I wouldnt write this if I wasnt sure. I played with “force high priority” checked in radeon pro. Still it was a bit sluggish. Then when I read this hint, I tried to go to task manager and indeed there was “high” in the priority menu when i clicked on fifa.exe, however there was still one greater option which was as I said, realtime. It just asks you if you are sure you wanna change it, you have to click yes, and then it works like a charm, at least it was that way with me, i tried everything we wrote about here, and in the end it was very playable, however when I turned it to realtime priority it has really made the final difference. Now i wouldnt even notice anythings bad if i didnt know, it seems to run without any kind of problems.
